Multiple NGW-1 units can be used to multiplex numerous NMEA 0183 devices onto the NMEA 2000 network, using the network as a means of combining and transferring all data from one place to another. Included in the package are four standoffs and screws which need to be attached to the Raspberry Pi. The NMEA 2000 Gateway provides an uncomplicated way to link between a boat’s data networks and converts NMEA 0183 data into NMEA 2000 data and vice-versa. Installing the board is straightforwards. PICAN-M installed on top of Raspberry Pi 4. The biggest challenge with the board is going to be finding a proper case that has the right cutout. which I get through the current connection from the Garmin to the Nexus server. NMEA 2000 Micro-C connector and terminal block for NMEA 0183. The issue I have with Actisense is their list of supported 2000 to 0183 translations does not include BWC, BWR, or WPL. do I need to get a converter like the Actisense NGW-1 to go from 2000 to 0183? This is all so I can get Position, COG, SOG, Set/Drift, Bearing and Distance to Waypoint, etc. can I hook the GPSMAP 546 to both NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 at the same time and have them run in parallel? Or. Prior to this modification, the GPSMAP 546 was communicating with my Nexus Classic sailing instruments via NMEA 0183 using the standard Garmin wiring harness. The GPS will be attached to an external GPS antenna as well. GPS is a Garmin GPSMAP 546 hooked by NMEA 2000 to a Simrad RS12 VHF and a GXM-52 XM Weather antenna. I am in the process of upgrading my nav / comms to NMEA 2000 but for a variety of reasons (primarily cash), I am not upgrading my sailing instruments until next year.
